Karolina Baca-Pogorzelska

Karolina Baca-Pogorzelska, born in 1983 in Jaworzno. A graduate of the Faculty of Journalism and Social Communication at the University of Warsaw (2007), a journalist and author of books, a 2nd-degree mining engineer. She is one of the first two women who came underground the deepest in Poland (1290 m below ground). In the years 2003-2016, she was associated with the Rzeczpospolita daily newspaper. First, she worked in the local Warsaw department, then in the economic department. Since 2016, she works in Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.She is an author or co-author of books:  „Drugie życie kopalń” (Wydawnictwo Tartak Wyrazów, 2013), „Babska szychta” (Tartak Wyrazów, 2014) i „Ratownicy. Pasja Zwycięstwa” (Cinematix Studio, 2015).She won (twice) "Karbidka" award of the State Mining Authority (2012, 2014) and the main prize of the Central Mining Institute (2008). She took third place in the "Journalists for Climate" competition (2018). She is the Personality of the Year 2018 of the Polish Wind Energy Association.Since 2017, she has been investigating, together with Michał Potocki, the import of anthracite from occupied Donbas to Poland and other countries. For this series, they were nominated for the 2018 Mediators Award and won the Grand Press 2018  in the category of specialistic journalism.  They also won the Dariusz Fikus prize in (2019), and were honoured for the anthracite cycle in the SDP competition. Their joint book about anthracite from Donbas will be published by Czarne publishing house.
